Brampton occupies the unseeded territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat—nations violently displaced by colonial theft. While the city feigns commitment to reconciliation, Mayor Patrick Brown actively suppresses dissent, erases opposition from official records, and empowers divisive extremism.
As Sri Lankans who have endured intimidation and censorship at Brampton City Council, we expose Brown’s hypocrisy. He even tried to scrub our concerns from Council minutes—proof of his authoritarian instincts. He champions “inclusivity” while endorsing a monument that glorifies the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), a globally banned terrorist group responsible for:
- Child soldiers forcibly recruited into suicide missions
- Massacres of civilians in villages, temples, and buses
- Assassinations of leaders like Jaffna Mayor Alfred Duraiappah, Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi and Sri Lankan President R. Premadasa
Yet, in Brown’s Brampton, these butchers are rebranded as “freedom fighters”.
The Use of Treaty Land for Political Favors
We demanded a memorial honoring all victims—Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim—united in grief. Instead, Brown handed Treaty land in Chinguacousy Park to a private company to build a propaganda monument. Why were the other reputed Tamil organisations ignored? Why were the other groups such as the Palastinians or any others who actually experienced Genocide not remembered in Brampton. The monument (see pictures):
- A distorted map of Sri Lanka, promoting separatist revisionism.
- No recognition of LTTE’s victims—thousands murdered in bombings and executions by suicide bombers and child soldiers.
- Who profited? What backroom deal justified gifting public space to a partisan entity?
Brown’s Bigoted Smear Campaign
His vile rant—“Genocide deniers, go back to Colombo!”—reveals his true character:
- Silencing survivors of LTTE atrocities
- Pandering to extremist lobbies for votes
- Ignoring Canada’s real genocide (residential schools, Indigenous erasure) while fabricating foreign narratives
A Career Built on Scandals

Brampton’s Fall under Brown’s Reign
Once a model suburb, the city is now a byword for:
- Rampant division fueled by identity politics
- Financial mismanagement draining public trust
- Cowardice in confronting extremism
We demand accountability. Brown must answer for:
- Censoring dissent at Council
- Misusing Treaty land for extremist propaganda
- Exploiting ethnic tensions for personal gain
Brampton deserves leaders who serve all citizens—not just the radicals and lobbyists who prop up this failed mayor. His time is up.
